Aus Überzeugung international
Als Lingua Franca wird Englisch inzwischen von mehr als zwei Milliarden Menschen weltweit gesprochen, wobei das Verhältnis von Zweit- zu Muttersprachlern ungefähr 3:1 ist, was den fortschreitenden Wandel des Englischen von einer National- hin zu einer wahrhaft internationalen Sprache eindrucksvoll unterstreicht. Und tatsächlich ist die multinationale Kommunikation auch in vielen deutschen Unternehmen inzwischen die Norm, und die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass man sich mit einem Kunden oder Partner aus Belgien, Argentinien, Russland oder Saudi-Arabien auf Englisch verständigen muss, dürfte zunehmend höher sein als die der Interaktion mit englischen Muttersprachlern.
Das neue Englisch ist international
In der englischen Sprachvermittlung trägt man diesen Entwicklungen unter dem Akronym TEIL - Teaching English as an International Language - Rechnung. Diese relativ neue Spielart berücksichtigt die Internationalisierung des Englischen im allgemeinen sowie der Gemeinschaft der englischen Sprachtrainer*innen im besonderen.
Wir bei der [SIC] School of International Communication haben deshalb das Wort International nicht nur in unserem Firmennamen, sondern es steckt förmlich in der DNA unseres Unternehmens, denn bei uns arbeiten Trainer*innen aus den insgesamt sechs Ländern, in denen Englisch Muttersprache ist, Seite an Seite mit internationalen Kollegen*innen. Sie alle haben zwei Dinge gemeinsam: Sie sind ausgebildete englische Sprachlehrer*innen und haben Ihre Liebe zur englischen Sprache und deren Vermittlung zum Beruf gemacht.

Francesco Cassano
I’m Francesco, I was born in Germany and hold dual citizenship, German and Italian. The Rhineland is where I was born and where I’ve lived my entire life.
Apart from my language studies and teacher training in English, Italian and Roman Catholic Religious Education, I studied economics and read law. In addition, I did my Cambridge CELTA and DELTA (Modules 1 & 3) to further develop my teaching as well as my managerial skills .
The establishment of the [SIC] in 2018 still feels like a dream coming true as it has allowed me to pursue as a profession one of the three passions of my life: the love of the English language.
Obviously, English has long since become the world’s lingua franca and is hence indispensable for anyone pursuing or looking to an international career. Apropos of international, that’s just what we are: a truly international team of teachers keen on supporting our customers in their endeavour to make English a full-fledged second language.

Anca Manastireanu
I was born and raised in Romania, where I lived until the summer of 2011. Having made the decision to move to Germany, my family and I left everything behind and settled in a fabulous village near Cologne.
My life in Germany has been a veritable roller coaster, with ups and downs, with steep slopes and very sudden bends. Nevertheless, living here has provided me with opportunities to grow and develop, both in my personal and professional life.
I began working as a teacher immediately after graduating from university in 2002. Teaching has always been a calling for me, not just a mere job. How do I know this? Well, if you find yourself lying awake at 2:00 in the morning, contemplating ways of bringing joy and passion for learning in your students' minds and hearts, you have figured out what teaching is really about.
My philosophy in life is simple: in a world where you can be anything, be kind!
Ivana Banovic
My education was always steered in the direction of language learning and it started while I was still in elementary school when my new-found love for English determined the path I would take in my life.
Pursuant to my love of language I chose all my future educational endeavors. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Croatia, where I studied English and Art History. A few years after graduating from university, I decided to continue with my education so I enrolled in a Master’s program in Heidelberg where I studied American Studies. In 2018 I got my CELTA certificate.
I have been living in Germany since 2010. I love living here because, in my experience, Germany is an easy-going, but well-organized country full of opportunities.
My personal motto is: “Don’t panic, everything is going to be OK.”
Mark Peirson
My name is Mark Peirson. I`ve been teaching English since I passed my CELTA qualification in 2008. I like to take a communicative approach combined with authentic materials in the classroom.
Originally from the UK, my career has brought me to Romania and Spain, but I settled with my family here in Cologne in 2015. The people here in Cologne make the city special. Their laid back attitude and great sense of humour make it a fun place to live and work.
Mairead Horgan
My name is Mairead Horgan, and I’m from Cork, Ireland. During my bachelor’s degree studying English and German, I came to Cologne for my Erasmus year in 2016 and fell completely in love with the city (and the rest of Germany!). In particular I loved the vibrancy of Cologne, but also how friendly the locals were.
After graduating in 2018 I worked as an English Language Assistant in a Gymnasium in Rheinland – Pfalz, which was a challenge but
hugely enjoyable. It inspired me to do a CELTA course, which I completed in Frankfurt in 2019. Now that I’m back living and working in Cologne, I couldn’t be happier. If I could pick a life motto, “Don’t just dream it, do it” applies to everything from traveling the world to
applying for the job you’ve always wanted. With English, all of this and more is possible!
